When you got to register your computer it will put in your name to the serial number. If it does not you will not have your one year warranty.

Why dod I get this bad feeling I could end up in court in like 3 years. SO when the defendant asked for advice to hide his identity you amoung others helped him on this so called forum. "uhhmm ... uhmmm .. nooo"

You're right.. if I truly was paranoid I wouldn't be posting these questions on the forum. ;)

This thread makes me giggle.

And yes, up to a certain amount, you can pay for pretty much anything in cash in a store. While I'm not sure what that amount is exactly, I used to pay for all my expensive electronics in cash (back before I had a bank account), including my $1000+ Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT.

I've never registered ANY of my Macs (at least 10) and have NEVER had need for the warranty. :D

It's always fun when people pay for 5000,- worth of stuff in 20,- coins...

...not:p

I'm not familiar with Norway's currency, but I assume that's 250 coins, give or take a few?

People come into my grocery store and throw 400 pennies on the counter to pay for a pack of cigarettes. Now that's fun.

Yeah, 250 coins.
20,- is the largest coin we got. Worth around $3.24
It's also what the slot machines pay when people win big. And then it's off to the nearest store, which luckily isn't ours anymore after we moved:cool:

Uh...

Yea, I was just wanting to know if I could actually buy a Macbook without having a credit card trail tied to the MAC address of the network card(s).

You've GOT to be kidding me. That sounds almost as bad as the people who REFUSE to sign the electronic pads because they're worried about "their signature being put on the internet" (I kid you not).

Credit card number tied to MAC address? You're giving Apple a little too much credit for being organized...

And yes, you can pay in cash.

Yep...

You do know they will follow you to your car and get the
license number. Thats what hapened to me.

I was actually taken in the back when I purchased my Mac Pro. They fingerprinted me, inserted an RFID tag and then transported me home where they did the same to all my family. I guess it's all part of being in the Apple cult.

It's okay though, the RFID tag doesn't itch much anymore.

Typing this on my Macbook I purchased with Cash on Black Friday ;)

Yes they accept cash! However they will not do the small corner store, "hey he is paying with cash, we don't have to charge him tax and can sell this off the books" deal though ;) .

If you went into the store and paid with over 10k worth of stuff in cash i think you would have to fill out a form, i know car dealerships have to
They have to collect information from you if you use cash anywhere in the United States for purchases in excess of $10,000, but this is a maximum minimum. In other words, certain states and/or municipalities and certain places of business have a lower threshold to trigger this. It is conceivable, depending on where you're located, that you will have to provide ID and complete a form if you purchase one of the more expensive Macs with cash.

But if you're really concerned about this sort of thing, remember that cameras are watching you, the government has excellent face recognition software, and money is serialized and traceable--and your transaction ID, including the serial number of the computer you purchase, will be recorded even though your identity is not. If they wanted to track you, they certainly could, even with an "anonymous" cash purchase.

Sleep tight!

They do sometimes take your information down like your name or email address (if you choose to get your receipt emailed to you). I know it gets put at the top of your receipt but I don't know if it goes further than that.
