I found the site CashForLaptops.com and was pleased with the price they quoted for a couple of Dell Inspiron boat anchors I'd like to unload.

Any experience with this outfit?

Some have suggested using eBay, but the extreme ease of just sending them the laptop and waiting for a check works much better for me.

They are legit, but the service sucks. They tend to make unusually high offers on older model laptops--more than you would expect to get based on what the same laptop is selling elsewhere. I think they might just gut the entire laptop and sell it piece by piece. I cannot think of any other way that they possibly could make money on the deal with some of the quotes they make. I've read other posts that seem to consistently describe their service as leaving something to be desired, though most confirm they have received checks...eventually.

You can of course probably get more for your stuff selling it yourself on eBay or craigslist. There are other places that buy laptops like cashintolaptops.com, Jay Brokers (www.jaybrokers.com), and gazelle.com. The last two are more reputable and established, though I've only dealt with jaybrokers.com and cashforlaptops.com directly.

I used Cash For Laptops a few months ago and I must say the whole process was very smooth, they paid quickly too. If you are OK with what they are offering you for your laptop then go for it.

Don't Use Jaybrokers!!! They'll Sell Your Info To Hackers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

send your item to them only if you want your data to be sold to hackers!

I sent them my laptop and after 10 days my data was sold to a third party site, all of them! I was lucky because I have lifelock and they monitor all black market sites for my information. tried contacting them by phone, no answer!

scary! but i was lucky, don't let it happen to you.

i've already reported them to the AG.

If what yoldor has said is true, just run darik's boot and nuke through the laptops quite a few times. It'll delete everything.

I'm skeptical of these places. Them, gazalle.com, those best buy and macmall trade-up places... they offer too little and once they see the thing, they themselves could make a small nick and then knock off $100 claiming there's a nick...

I've sold directly on amazon.com -- even with their cut, I've made some very good sales transactions.
