I currently have a macbook pro for development and some light video editing. I also play casual counter strike on my free time.

I am looking at the base model Mac Pro and the Macbook Pro with AMD Radeon R9 M370X.

Purely in terms of gaming, is there a big performance difference between base Mac Pro and the upgraded MacBook Pro with a dedicated graphics card?

You're in luck. I have the exact numbers from 3DMark.

Seems the basic quad core Mac Pro with 2x D300 in Crossfire on Windows will give you 3.6 times the performance of the M370X (Firestrike score of 7909 vs 2216).

If gaming in OS X though half that Mac Pro score since OS X does not support Crossfire.
