I believe so as I'm doing it, the CAT6 cable is only going to output as much as the slowest device will allow. For example, if my router is not able to sustain 1gb transmission then the CAT6 cable won't stop working. But just so you know I believe the max length of CAT6 is less than CAT5e/CAT5. It's around 300 ft I think.
 
It won't explode or anything, it will just downshift .. non-technically speaking that is. :)
