Is Cat 6 ethernet cable back-compatible with Cat 5? I need to run a 75' cable from my Airport Extreme Base Station (802.11n/100 MB) to my Apple TV.

I believe so as I'm doing it, the CAT6 cable is only going to output as much as the slowest device will allow. For example, if my router is not able to sustain 1gb transmission then the CAT6 cable won't stop working. But just so you know I believe the max length of CAT6 is less than CAT5e/CAT5. It's around 300 ft I think.

That's my understanding as well, but just wanted to get other opinions to be sure before mail-ordering it. The ATV only has a 100 MBps port, so I should be fine.

It won't explode or anything, it will just downshift .. non-technically speaking that is. 🙂
