take it to the store and ask them to clean it for you, or open it up.

Can't hurt ,if they say you have to buy a new one or live with it try opening it up at home but that would be a last choice idea.

It's two months old. No way am I breaking it apart myself, nor do I have the time to send it back for "repair."

I paid $6,000 for the best so I could make a living with this equipment, not have an LCD that sucks not only cat hair, not only an eyelash, but now dust.

I'm not leaving the store tomorrow without a new one. Simply inexecusable to pay this much money for something like this and have it suck dust. What am I supposed to do, work in a clean room?

Uhh...

That seems to be a defect in the display Gary.

They're supposed to be SEALED. x_x'

I'm guessing it isnt sealed. Must've not been sealed properly, but I know that from talking to a genius at Annapolis, they are made to be sealed so nothing can get inside of them. I asked him why there was no vents because it felt like an oven. lol. :p

Good luck though man. They should replace it, since its obviously a defect on their part since it is supposed to be sealed.

Taking it in today.

I'm just nicely going to tell them that I have three other LCD displays in the same room (two other Apple) and that this just isn't normal.

Sending it in for repair won't be an option, either. I really use the heck out of these things every day.

Wish me luck! :D

Good luck... and don't take no for an answer although I'm sure that you won't.

Maybe an injured and disappointed tone is better than a belligerent one. Well, at first anyway.

I decided to let them repair it. Hopefully they will just replace it from the repair depot.

If it was my ONLY display, I wouldn't have left, but since this is "my" local Apple Store, and I have another at home, I don't want to call in favors I don't have to..yet. They said I'd have it, or a replacement, back in two days or so.

Now, one thing that really irks me is thie Pro Care thing. If you buy online from Apple (which I did, there was no store here at the time) you CAN NOT get Pro Care, which gets you same-day repairs, advance bokings at the genuis bar....why am I punished because I didn't buy it at a retail store?

I was told i could get ProCare whenever i wanted to at the local applestore around here (at least the one at chestnut hill) And they didn't bother asking if i bought it in a store or online.

My other display now has two hairs in it.

This is pretty lame.

Time to shave the cats.

Time to shave the cats.

Basically.

I brush her everyday (short hair, even) and she just keeps shedding.

The guy at Apple said you should be able to buy the thing in hair and not have one get in.

Well, I just got a message that the unit (don't know whether they repaired it or decided to send me a new one) is on it's way.

It would be sweet if it was a new and unopened unit.

after you get new monitor

seems you have 2 issues at hand:
1. getting a new screen - I would be very ticked that something got on the inside. That is not right at all.

2. what to do with the cat afterwards

Despite being an animal lover, I won't say what I would do with the cats, but suffice to say, they wouldn't be around very much longer...

Cheers,
Keebler

They repaired the old one (replaced the LCD).

BTW - the repair order says it is a Phillips LCD - just an FYI for anyone curious.

No dead pixels, and no cat hair!

I missed it terribly.

4 day turn-around. Nice job Apple.

iGary,
Apple doesn't normally replace computers for small issues like this, right? (not like Dell, they replace almost all computer, and don't bother repairing them) I'm wondering because Apple has never done something like this before on my numerous repairs..maybe they changed their policy?

They didn't replace IT, they replaced the LCD "element" of the display, which I noticed on the repair order is a Phillips part (just the LCD - not the frame and cord, etc.)
