A lot of the new 16" MBP owners are bothered by the popping sound issue, which you can find a lot of related threads/posts. The newly released macOS Catalina 10.15.2 is finally out and there are mixed feedback. Some claim that this update completely fixes this issue while others say the problem remains, albeit less frequent. To provide an idea of how this update is doing in solving this issue, I created this poll.

As always, anyone who has installed this update please provide your feedback. If some issues remains with your machine, please edit this wiki post to reflect the specific problem of your machine.

The format is "Apps with issues (machine count)". For example, "FinalCut Pro (4)" means there are 4 people who have problems with FinalCut Pro on their machines.

  • Youtube playing with Safari (4)
  • Video players, such as IINA/VLC (0)
  • FinalCut Pro (0)

youtube+safari can be replicated on any 2018/2019 macbook..but the sound "pop" is tuned down

I casually used YouTube at lower volumes last night and didn’t hear anything. Just after I installed I happened to have my volume up quite high and although it’s definitely more bearable, there was still noticeable out of place crackling/popping. Watched a movie in bed last night and when it ended I quit QuickTime and was met by the loudest pop since I updated. Definitely not entirely fixed, but better?

You may need an option in the poll, ‘I haven’t experienced the popping issue in my mbp16’; which is the one I would have checked.

Haha, indeed, I could have added this option. But this poll is primarily for users who are bothered by this issue, just to see roughly how many machines are fixed with the recent update.
