Hi,

I'm currently running Catalina 10.15.7. I have a bunch of mp3's and each time I modify the file (using a program that updates the files mp3 tags), the files modified date value does not change. I never had this issue before upgrading to Catalina. What I did notice is that when I make a change to the file, I can see the same file appearing a second time (temporarily) showing the updated modified date then disappears (it happens to quick), however the original file still shows the original modified date.

What program are you using to modify the files on Catalina? Please post the name and version number.

Were you using the same program on OS versions prior to Catalina, or were you using something else?

What I just noticed is that the "Date Modified" value is updating for the actual folder that the files are in but it's not updating the "Date Modified" value of the actual file within that folder.

I suggest asking the software developer about it. It seems like an unusual feature to add, but they might have a reason for doing so.

Any app can intentionally preserve modification dates on files it writes. It takes extra steps in the code to do this, so there's usually a reason behind it.

Is the unchanging modification date causing a problem for you now, or is it just something unusual you noticed? If it's causing a problem, please explain what the problem is, and it may be possible to come up with a workaround using something like Automator.app or an AppleScript.
