Hello.
I succesfully installed catalina 1.15.7 on my 5,1 MP (it has some sort of lag and goes slow, i suspect its for the gpu) but that ain't the point.
the problem is that catalina only detects the radeon 5870 with the dosdude1 GPU legacy patcher, and wont detect the rx 5500xt, wich was the whole point to try to upgrade to catalina so it would get supported.
Note that if i don't install the gpu legacy patch the catalina partition wont even startup, the installation goes well but it will get stuck at half point on booting. Also i know the 5500xt works fine because i have another drive with windows wich works perfectly.

Others, please correct me if I'm wrong about this. I believe you can't have a non-Metal and a Metal GPU in at the same time, it's either one or the other. The other thing is, although the DosDude patch worked great in the past, OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP) works much better. What I did with my 5,1 is to take out the old 5770 card completely, and then just throw in the Metal one (a W5500 in my case).

The long and short of it is, you can only have one or the other. So take your pick.

You do not get a "native" bootscreen (i.e. the one that would normally show). Instead, you get the OpenCore boot screen. It looks very similar to the native one, but it is really something completely different (a different bootloader).

So yes and no—if you think of the bootscreen as the native one, no you don't, but if you think about the bootscreen as the OpenCore bootscreen, then yes, you do.

(God, I've used "bootscreen" 5 times in this short post...)

How about installing Big Sur or Monterey?
How about ditching Dosdude1 patcher and go with OpenCore Legacy Patcher?
