My question is a hard case without a liner like the Caudabe Lucid clear or other hard cases without a liner, will they scratch the high gloss stainless steel band on the iPhone x. I believe the band is more susceptible to scratches than aluminum? I maybe should have gotten TPU clear soft case.

I actually just got my lucid clear inn the mail today. After looking at it , it doesn’t seem like it would stretch out. But only time will tell

Thats one of the reasons I won't buy a hard case ive had problems in the past with dirt getting inside and scratching the phone
I really want the official apple leather case but the exposed section puts me off because of scratching.
So I was looking and a clear skin may work, protects the phone from scratches and should still allow a thin case on or in my case the official apple ones

I'm not so concerned about stretching, but because it's a hard material I'm concerned it may scratch if it fits tightly and I'm trying to put it on. TPU is soft and flexible so it would be less likely to scratch (I don't have a dust problem because I use a belt pouch not pockets). I ordered the lucid clear and became concerned.

I stopped worrying about scratches when I went on the upgrade program. Keep it in a case all year, take it out at the end of the year, wipe it down and ship it to Apple. Angst be gone.

Hard cases always wear down the phone finish in places. It’s a hard surface rubbing your phone.

I have the lucid clear on my silver X, it looks like some dust particles can get through, doesn't seem to scratch anything though, but it's still early. Taking it off is not as easy as i would like, there's potential to scratch when taking the phone out.

Guys, stainless steel scratches easily. It’s not the case. Look at the other threads about this in the main iPhone section. Just get a polishing cloth and your problems are gone. This is not like the aluminum iPhones in the past where you can’t do anything about it once they get scratched.

Correct. Scratches buff out easily from the stainless steel. For anyone who’s ever bought or used a stainless steel watch, you’ll know. Heck, just look at the Apple Watch section of the forums. Scratches on stainless steel are unavoidable but easy to address.

Unless you have the Space Gray X :(

I have a very similar case by Tozo and I have a tiny scuff just from removing/putting on the case.
