My mid-2010 15" macbook pro (still running OS 10.6.8) has recently been acting up. The screen goes black (4x so far this week) while doing nothing unusual - I believe using Chrome each time. I have to force a restart using the power button. I haven't changed anything with the system. I'm worried that this is the dreaded faulty graphics card finally showing up ("TS4088") but I'm quite far from the Apple store so hard to pay a visit to the geniuses. Technically I'm way outside the eligibility period anyway. Can anyone offer insight from this log? I have no idea what I'm looking at. Thanks.

Yes, this is a graphics related kernel panic.

I get these panics, too.

It's a known defect with the 15" 2010 MPB graphics card. Apple had a service advisory and extended warranty on the issue but that has now expired. Switching to integrated graphics (with gfxCardStatus or another application) stops the panic, but means that you can't use an exterior monitor at the same time.

Your options are hardware repair, a new laptop, living with intergrated graphics (that's what I'm trying to do for now). You could also call up Apple or visit the genius bar to see if they will do anything for you.

I have this same issue. How do you switch to the integrated graphics? I don't use an exterior monitor. So if that would stop the panics I'd be very happy.

I increased memory to 8 GB in January to stop the SBBOD. Helped a little. Put in an SSD thinking that was the problem with the crashes that started a few months ago. Love it so glad I did. However I'd still like to stop the panics.

Thanks for your anticipated help!

https://github.com/julian-poidevin/MBPMid2010_GPUFix I did this fix and it totally fixed my MBP 15" late 2009 with the same graphics card problem...
