Wow!!

The dumbing down of iWorks to be able to integrate with iOS/iCloud is really disappointing. I have been considering switching because I thought the update would possible provide more capability, not less. Guess I will punt and stick with MS Office for Mac for a while.

Is the new iWorks Apples version of Quicken Essentials for Mac?

Yes, I have both fortunately. I don't know if it's because I bought the boxed version, --perhaps iWorks downloaded from the MAS eliminates the old version.

After reading the rest of the thread i think I'll delete the new versions.

So, just to confirm... the old iWork applications will work if they are moved to a new folder?

Two questions
Q1 - If you accidentally open an iWork 09 document in the new iWork, can you close it without iWork 5 mucking up the contents?

Q2 - Is there any reason to install iWorks 5 at all if I don't need iWork on an iOS device?

Q1: Do not save or change the file and it will be fine.

Q2: No. I would not recommend the new iWorks. It is clearly a step backwards. Many features have been stripped from it.

This is the part that is amazing to me. You cannot even delete a page out of a document, you cannot duplicate a page in a document, and you cannot move pages around in a document. This renders it 100% ridiculous never mind unusable.

Amazed that this actually got to the point of release without someone saying "hey, wait a minute, you can't even delete a page in a document

I'm with you on this one - what was an amazing WP and beat the hell out of Word has now been diminished considerably. Not being able to delete / rearrange pages is a joke. Plus where have those nice pages within the templates gone?

I just can't believe they said this was good to roll out.

did they get rid of mail merge?!!?!

for years i have been tweaking the way i do business so that i could still use Macs in the office.

i use 5 iMacs and two MBP's... and now they took away one of the most used features the mail merge!

can someone please give me a good reason as to why they would do away with this???

I hope they don't abandon Mac users and go into the iToys business exclusively.
