I'm running Yosemite Public Beta 2. I tried installed the Xcode 6 GM. Would hang and crash. I uninstalled it and installed 6.1 Beta. Same problem. Any thoughts as to how to get Xcode to launch successfully?

I think you're problem is that you're running the public beta which is a bit behind the developer version. I think the developer version (beta 7) and Xcode 6 is the combo you need. Apparently there are some third party programs which will get you out of the recovery loop but whether they are safe and work I have no idea. I'm waiting for Xcode 6 GM to finish.

Hi I am on Beta 7 and using Xcode 6 and I'm still getting an error 3014 when trying to restore. :S

You don't need to have Xcode open. Download Xcode 6 Gm, install, open it (that is actual installation and it takes a while).
Now you can quit Xcode, open iTunes and all should proceed as normal :)

I have done exactly that but continue to get error 3014.

Guys. All you have to do is use TINYUMBRELLA and connect iPhone to mac and press exit recovery!

this is to get your phone back at least.

Resolved

Very simple!
1. Disintall iTunes: Open "Terminal" and digit: "cd /Applications/" after digit: "sudo rm -rf iTunes.app" so iTunes will delete, but all preferences and music not.
2. Download iTunes from Apple site
3. Update iTunes beta from AppStore
4. Open iTunes and install GM
After that if not resolved do this:
1. go here: "/Sistema/Libreria/Extensions"
2. delete the file "AppleMobileDevice.kext"

iTunes 12 is most certainly a Developer Preview (happy?). I'm not sure why we're surprised when it does not function properly. That was the simple point I was trying to make.
But you are not updating your phone with a beta, you are updating it with a GM which is a final release.

Got an error message when the update nearly completed iTunes showed some error luckily it was the last step and my 5S successfully restarted with a welcome screen and voilà 8 GM. I didn't restore just updated. iTunes 11.

But you are not updating your phone with a beta, you are updating it with a GM which is a final release.

My understanding of the issue at hand is that iTunes 12 crashed at a critical stage of the update process. That doesn't sound like a problem with the GM build of iOS. Thus, iTunes 12 is the problem, leading to my comments here.

Just confirming that the latest version of iTunes on Windows works for the iOS 8 update. Might be the best option if it's available to you.

Windows iTunes 11.4

Hi,

This is maybe a silly question and I sincerely apologize. I updated the iTunes on my laptop (windows) to 11.4. Now I downloaded IOS 8 GM but when I try to install it using the restore option it gives me the following pop up:

The iPhone could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible.

Is the ipsw file only for mac or both? And if both what am I doing wrong so that I cannot restore to ios 8 on my phone?

Thanks for any help.

James

The firmware is not compatible means you downloaded the wrong iOS 8 GM.

But it did read the A1533 firmware. I am using the iPhone 5s Rogers Canada. That is strange. Maybe the link is downloading another file even when it does confirm the A1533 version.

Check A number and download again. It has been my experience in the past, that when I accidentally downloaded the wrong file and tried to install, I would get that message that you posted.
