I'm running Yosemite Public Beta 2. I tried installed the Xcode 6 GM. Would hang and crash. I uninstalled it and installed 6.1 Beta. Same problem. Any thoughts as to how to get Xcode to launch successfully?

I think you're problem is that you're running the public beta which is a bit behind the developer version. I think the developer version (beta 7) and Xcode 6 is the combo you need. Apparently there are some third party programs which will get you out of the recovery loop but whether they are safe and work I have no idea. I'm waiting for Xcode 6 GM to finish.
You don't need to have Xcode open. Download Xcode 6 Gm, install, open it (that is actual installation and it takes a while).Did you have Xcode 6 open when you were attempting DFU mode?

Now you can quit Xcode, open iTunes and all should proceed as normal![]()
GM is not a beta.Updating your phone with a beta from a beta version of iTunes probably isn't the best idea.

GM is not a beta.
I just finished installing the GM on my 5s with no issues.
But you are not updating your phone with a beta, you are updating it with a GM which is a final release.iTunes 12 is most certainly a Developer Preview (happy?). I'm not sure why we're surprised when it does not function properly. That was the simple point I was trying to make.

The firmware is not compatible means you downloaded the wrong iOS 8 GM.Hi,
This is maybe a silly question and I sincerely apologize. I updated the iTunes on my laptop (windows) to 11.4. Now I downloaded IOS 8 GM but when I try to install it using the restore option it gives me the following pop up:
The iPhone could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible.
Is the ipsw file only for mac or both? And if both what am I doing wrong so that I cannot restore to ios 8 on my phone?
Thanks for any help.
James

But it did read the A1533 firmware. I am using the iPhone 5s Rogers Canada. That is strange. Maybe the link is downloading another file even when it does confirm the A1533 version.
