I was thinking about this too. Toothbrush subscriptions exist all ready. Along with face razors and cat litter.

You do want a way (for example in corporate communication) to distinguish between the CORPORATION and the SERVICE.
No-one sensible wants to go down the rathole of "Can you use Apple TV on an Apple TV"...
Bu honestly something like Paramount Peak seems IMHO much better branding.
Yeah good point

I have Disney+, AppleTV+, Hulu, Prime but the most (99%) I watch is YouTube. And I don’t care about the advt. on YouTube because I can skip mostly in 5 seconds.
Really wanted to subscribe to Discovery+ But I know I won’t watch it as much as YouTube.
i am definitely not subscribing to anymore more services. May be if there is a subscription to “time”.

Remember when people were "cutting the cord" to save money? The entertainment guys are firing back and winning.

Even if you subscribe to multiple streaming services... you still might be paying less than a full-on cable TV package with equipment rental.

You can get Netflix and Disney+ and Paramount+ for around $30 a month and you'd have more content than you can even imagine.

Now compare that to the 500 channel TV package with a couple DVR boxes. That's waaay more than $30 a month.

At least with streaming you can pick and choose which services you want... and cancel them or renew them as you please. A few months with one service... a few months with another service... etc.

But no one cancels their cable TV and mails back their DVR boxes multiple times a year. You're pretty much in it for the long haul (thanks contracts!)

Hell... even if streaming cost more than cable TV... I'd still rather have streaming for the freedom and on-demand viewing options.

But as I have shown... you can get PLENTY of streaming TV for much less than you're paying for a linear cable TV package with a terrible DVR box.

But, these companies are just starting. Expect to see a lot more companies provide monthly fees if these earlier companies are successful. Youtube already does that for getting rid of commercials. And the previous cable addons like HBO are also now streaming so no use paying for those from your cable provider.

Also, I pay close to $80 for my cable package and zero in rental fees since I own my own equipment. And that includes 1 Gbps down/50 Mbps up internet. Really wish we had a fiber option.

Marketing Exec: “Let’s rebrand. How about we take a flat, modern looking name and logo and replace it with something ugly and dated that looks like it came straight from the 90s? People are into cursive right? Let’s show the kids how hip PARAMOUNT is”
Wonder if it is the same marketing exec who tried to make Tim Cook look like an outdoorsman by showing him in outdoorsy dress out in the “wilderness”.....(200 yards from the Apple headquarters).

I don't think this model is as scalable as content providers want it to be. To be successful you a) good exclusive content to bring people to the platform, but also b) a decent amount of background and filler content: the oldies, the goodies, the show you want to rewatch 30 times, the classic movies. Without either people are not going to subscribe or at least not for long.

I just don't see much room in the market for services that can pull of both in a way that makes people want to subscribe long-term. You'll either get people jumping between services or we'll see market consolidation with some of the bespoke services by content providers going bust.

Honestly, it's a tightrope between healthy competition and inconvenience. With music, I like that I can get by with one service and that I can choose this service on the basis of usability. TV and movies are a nightmare.

I wouldn't be surprised if people started to pirate stuff more again.

I have Disney+ espn hulu, Netflix, Amazon prim, philo, cbs all access and YouTube premium. Truthfully I watch YouTube 90% of the time.

Laporte has been hawking them for a while now. He makes them seem like the best thing since sliced bread. 😂

Even then it was expensive if you lived in a household with multiple taste in entertainment. I like sports, the wife has certain TV shows and movies, then there’s the kids. Worse, I couldn’t watch the Penguins without subscribing to a VPN service and the NHL package. Not going through all that to watch a game.

Yeah Paramount+ is lazy beyond belief!
Is this really such a hard problem?
Paramount Peak? Paramount Z? Paramount Total? Paramount All Access? Paramount Everest?
Those are terrible names. Something simple and understandable like Paramount at Home, Paramount Box Office is better. Or following an already understood/used naming convention like “+”.

This is why I won't buy an Apple TV in a nutshell. With to do with the expensive oversized paperweight when the content providers stop providing any content? :*
So you’re worried about what to do with your AppleTV when we reach the end of civilization? Use it as a stone in your sling a’la David and Goliath.

Not sure how you pirate it, but in our family we share the accounts from different homes. Most services let you do that.

CBS and the few lame channels they own aren‘t worth a wooden nickel in a paid package. I don't think I’ve watched anything on the Paramount channel in a decade or more, and I never watch MTV or BET. OTA CBS is okay, but it is not not worth paying for a couple more shows. Basically they have nothing to offer that is worth the monthly fee.

Only for the dummies who think they need everything all the time. This route is better, can keep one service for a month or two and then switch.

I doubt most people will switch. It is silently billed to a CC or pulled direct from their bank account. After a month or two they will just fade into the cost of living. All of these subscription services count on this human behavior. Another example is gym memberships.

"With Paramount + as our incredibly creative and unique name, how about a logo that could never be mistaken for an urgent care clinic?"

Tip. If you're fed-up of boring stuff, watch this just released series for some deep human insights, from the legendary Adam Curtis...
