I dropped DTV for PSVue. Haven’t looked back. That being said, if they add DVR I’ll definitely look back then

Likewise. Fortunately I picked up a ATV4 for pre-paying for three months of DTV Now when it was initially introduced.

After the three months was up, my wife and I switched to PS Vue and haven't looked back since. I would be tempted to switch back to DTV Now, but they certainly would have to introduce DVR that works, in addition to offering NFL Sunday Ticket. PS Vue offers RedZone which will be hard to pass up once the regular season starts.

DTVN works 100% for me now. It was a rocky start their first 3 months, but I am happy I stayed with it. I like the ATV interface. Maybe because I was on VUe and this GUI was a total POS. Hated it.
Yea it has gotten a lot better in the last few months. I signed up from the very start and still have my $35 Go Big promo price with free HBO. I came -><- this close to cancelling back in March but kept with it.

Ironically I have had CBS All Access since last September due to getting it for year free, from another promo. So didn't miss it on DTVN--but looks like I should have it by the time my CBS promo expires.

All this talk about "DVR coming soon" makes me wonder:

How much longer will scheduled broadcast television be a thing?

My question is somewhat rhetorical... as I don't think it will go away in my lifetime. I'm sure the billions of dollars in ad sales on the hundreds of hours of daily programming will keep it around for a while.

But it seems like we are clinging to an obsolete idea.

The reason you even need a DVR is because most television is still delivered to your home on a set schedule. If you're not home at 8:30pm on a Tuesday... you can't watch your show.

DVR fixes that problem. Hooray!

But today... nearly all pre-recorded TV content exists on a server somewhere. There's no technical reason why a TV show needs to be broadcast at 8:30pm on a Tuesday.

Everything could be delivered on-demand. Wouldn't that be better?

But like I said... I doubt scheduled television will go away anytime soon.

Though today's younger generation doesn't abide by a set TV schedule. Broadcast TV might be in for a tough time in the future.

Sorry for the rant... hearing "DVR" sparked this thought. :)

I agree with you.... It seems silly to need a DVR for a 100% streaming TV service.

That said people are fond of DVRs not just for recording shows they couldn't watch when they "air": many people do it just for the ability to skip ads. Heck, I have often recorded a show for no other reason than to be able to skip the ads. The ability to skip ads is already being taken away by PS Vue's DVR. If there is an on-demand agreement for that show you will only get the on-demand version should it be available. You can't skip ads in that case.

Then there is the Netflix and Amazon Video model, which at this point in time I prefer. No ads, aside from before the show starts to play (I am talking to you Amazon).

I prefer the Netflix/Amazon Video model of content rather than ad-sponsored. It is not just having to endure ads: many shows are designed around the ad paradigm. For example, a 30 minute--when aired--true story crime show might only be 22 minutes of content. And then there might be even less content due to the after commercial break "recaps" for those "just tuning in." That Forensic Files episode you wasted a half hour watching only had like 8 minutes of real programming. :)

Sounds good.......I guess. I just hate that ATT bought Direct Tv. I feel that I can kiss goodbye any really substantial deals they will offer in the future for mobile service. Where as Verizon and T Mobile are still coming with good compelling offers, the majority of anything from ATT that is the least bit interesting is always......4 lines of unlimited data and free IPhone "with Direct tv subscription"
Being a ATT customer, this really sucks. I dont want direct tv, will probably never want it. Can you just give me a good offer without requiring me to subscribe to your ****** Sat/stream svs. Really considering switching after Christmas.

Depends what your idea of a "good offer" is, I guess.

Their retentions is usually able to lower your bill permanently at least once per year, in my experience. This last go around with them a few months ago, I got $10 off my bill for the same amount of data I had previously. Also, I asked and they added the "Roaming North America" feature to the lines on my account so that my family can use our phones in Canada and Mexico the same way we use them at home. The Roaming North America feature was initially only a benefit of the "unlimited" plans, but it seems retentions is willing to add it to Mobile Share Advantage plans now, as well.

So, I got $10.00/month off my wireless bill and we can use our plan in its entirety in three countries now instead of one. I'm a happy camper for the time being.

Finally. Can we use this to watch NFL games though? Football and the new Star Trek series are the only reasons I might ever watch CBS.

Games broadcast on your local CBS station if your station is part of the carriage agreement. Will be blacked out on any phone or tablet due to Verizon's mobile exclusive with the NFL.

Works fine for us.
oh that must mean it's working 100% perfectly for everyone, right?

Whats wrong with the GUI? I like it. The only thing they need to add is a "Return to previous channel" option
1. select favorite channel -> select any channel in your favorites -> when you swipe right on the remote, it should go to your next favorite channel. currently it moves to the next channel as if you were in the "all channels" view in the guide.
2. after swiping on a favorite channel and going to the next "all" channel, when you press menu to go to the guide, your cursor isn't highlighted anywhere on the guide. you have to swipe like crazy to make the cursor appear on the guide.
3. swiping to look ahead in the guide is clunky. it should breeze swiftly when you want to look ahead 4-5 hours on the guide. then if you want to go back to present time in the guide, you have to slowly swipe to make the cursor move in between the channel name column and the time column. if you do it too fast, you move the cursor onto the channel column which i don't want.
4. The app asks you if you're still watching. I usually leave DIRECTV NOW on playing in the background while I work, so I have to tap "yes" a few times every single day. Very annoying.
plus a few more things i remember being super annoyed about but don't have the time to type it up here.

it works about 95% of the time for me. i remember during GoT's premiere, the service went down for some people. i don't even watch GoT but my service was affected.

It took the better part of a year, but DTVN is shaping up to be a serious competitor.

If they stick to their promises and continue the benefits offered the early adopters, it will be even better.

I still see glitches every now and then with the stream, but it has been trouble-free most of the time. The only widespread outage was a Sunday a few weeks back.

The app is getting regular updates, but between its bugs and Ive's Remote From Hell, it can be frustrating sometimes.

Still waiting for CBS / Channel 6 locally in ORLANDO Florida... I thought they'd have added it by now. Anyone have ideas when it might show up on DirecTV Now?
