I got my Macbook a few months ago, and the CD drive's been fine this entire time.

However, recently it hasn't. When the computer returns from sleep mode, the drive makes a grinding and buzzing noise, followed by a beep, then it repeats. This usually lasts for about 10 seconds or so. Afterwards, there'll be a grinding clicking noise, and the noise will finally stop. The same thing happens if you try to eject a disc through the computer rather than with the eject button.

And you can't put a disc into the drive. The drive is empty, but it acts almost as if it's jammed.

Any help would be much appreciated. I'd prefer not having to take it to get repaired, if it's only a small problem.

something GRINDING doesn't sound like a small problem sir, i would take it to an Apple store as soon as possible, you could be doing more damage to something by waiting.
