cd/dvd drive not working

Hi I've got Imac G4, for years all working well, until 2 weeks ago it doesn't want to burn to CD or DVD, also doesn't want to read from a cd, it keep spitting it out after 2 second, but it plays well with DVD movies. Anybody knows how to fix this? before I took it to the store to be fixed. I thought I might try something first.
