cd/dvd playback choppy in windows on macbook

On the mac side CDs and DVDs have no playback issues. But on the Windows side the audio and video playback with CDs and DVDs is jittery and choppy. I can rip cds and copy from cds (although it is slow) to the hard drive. I am wondering if anyone has had similar issues, or can suggest a way to remedy this?
