Hey Yall. My Windows xp Home Edition CD-key is already registered. (I used it before my hard drive broke). So I went out to buy another copy I can use but I couldn't install it because I needed a previous version of windows to install it.

So I took it back. I wanted to install Windows XP anyway so when I do get a code I won't have to install everything again. But I don't want to spend 200 dollars on it. If I go back and get the upgrade version of it do you guys think that that CD-Key will work?

if your hard drive "broke", you can still call microsoft's customer care to reuse the previous cd key. Just explain what happened and they should let you activate the new installation with the old cd key, but please dont misuse this feature.
