cell network required for jailbreak?

im out of the country and only using my iphone on wifi, i was wondering if i were to download a jb do i need access to the cell network in order to get the jb activated and installed? thanks. i did a search but didnt find much.

i believe you would need the cell network to activate....(or maybe its just itunes with a connection)

however if you simply hacktivate you would be fine

Since the sim doesn't need to be active, just from the original carrier the phone was issued by, my guess, and it's just a guess, is no.

I restored and rejailbroke my 3GS right before I sold it last week and it did not have an active SIM in it at the time, so no, you don't need a cell network to get it done.
