Is there any place where I can look over the costs of iPad cellular plans without going through the setups on the iPad itself?

Well, seeing the cellphone companies make their pricing as obscure and confusing as possible, refuse to tell you how much the taxes and fees are, and do everything they can to avoid showing you their cheaper plans: good luck with that. (Same with ISPs.)

The basic cost is typically $10 to add an iPad to a shared data plan with your smartphone. I pay $10.47 including the taxes (Verizon, in Alameda, California).

I assume however you are trying to research standalone plans, so cannot help, sorry. Would be interested what you find out.

I assume you know that cellular is not really needed for an iPad if you always have your smartphone with you - just use it as a hotspot (at the expense of phone battery usage, though).

Thanks. I am trying to get a technophobe friend online so she can do iMessage, FaceTime and email with the least investment. She has a pay-go Samsung S3. I'm looking at a refurbished iPad for under $400.

I have cellular service on my own iPad but never used it. (I do a hotspot with my phone, when needed.) My recollection is that it's about $10-15 for a couple of Gig of data, which should be enough for her uses.

T-Mobile has a 5G/150 days/$10 plan. I pay AT&T $35/month for an unlimited standalone data plan.

If you have a cellular enabled ipad, Visible has a current promo of $15 a month for two months. Unlimited data.

Thanks for the lead. Getting her over the hump to actually buy the iPad is the hard part. :)

For low use data T-Mobile has the best prepaid plan - 5 months of access to 5GB of data is only $10 and you can re-up it early if you burn through it - love this plan because I always want access to data, but don’t often need a ton of data just a bit to access websites etc.

Thanks, I'll pass that on.
