Hi, pretty new here and have loved reading the posts, looking for some advice. Looking to buy the silver aluminium series 4 (absolutely love the SS but can’t justify the extra) just trying to decide whether the cellular will be worth it or not. I’m contracted with a network that doesn’t support AW till next summer so I would just be using the GPS till then. I won’t be getting a new watch every year so if I want to have cell when this contract finishes I have to choose that watch now. Anyone think it’s been totally worth it? Or has it and doesn’t use it much? Thanks in advance

I’ve been using the cellular capabilities on my S4, since launch day and I have to say it’s a huge part of my daily life. There are times at work, where my phone is left on my desk and I have to walk upstairs to the 3rd floor and I’m still able to get texts, emails, notifications and phone calls. It came in handy when I got stuck between the 2nd and 3rd floor on the elevator and left my phone in my coat pocket. The emergency call button on the elevator was not working so I used my S4 to call management and had someone to reset the elevator so I could go back down. I would’ve been SOL without my watch and the cellular capabilities. I also love having it in case I don’t have my phone on me and my daughter’s school or son’s babysitter need to reach me.

It Depends. Do you think you would value the LTE capabilities with freedom away from your iPhone? Such as being in the gym, or the grocery store where you won’t be tethered to your iPhone, or if you go for a run and you want to be able to take that call without having your iPhone, those are all instances I would consider. The real factor, is can you justify the $10-$13 a month added to your carrier bill for those capabilities? For some, they can, and others do not.

Not much point getting LTE when you can't use it til next summer. I would get the GPS S4, then sell it and get LTE S5 next year when your new carrier supports it. Financially you will do okay given you're looking at the aluminum watch.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I have the cellular version, too, and I live and work in a very poor cell reception area, especially for any kind of data. Not sure it would be worth the extra cost. I would love to have it, though, and I’m sure AT&T would love for me to have it, too. I heard AT&T was waiving the activation fee, so I’m tempted to try it.

This is hard to answer because you are probably in a different country and your rates will be different. I purchased a cell version but have no plans to connect it. I'd love to, but because of the plans I'd have to take, I'm looking at roughly $40/mo more to use it. Honestly, it could almost replace my iPhone but you have to have the iPhone to set things up on it so there's no escaping that. Heck, even if I didn't have to change my plan, it would still be $15.00/mo which is really hard to justify, at least for me.

So, why did I get cell? Because I go up in the hills, often by myself, and I wanted something that might be able to 911 some help my way if I did something stupid like fall down a hill. This isn't 100% because if I go at all of the beaten path, no cell coverage, but where I go most of the time, there's cell coverage, just not enough people to find me right away.
