New Drivers Resolved Issues

Hi,

Fortunately I was able to resolve my issues by updating the drivers on the server that was handing out the web pages. From my perspective, I was the vendor providing the sites to my customers, unfortunately, you are on the other end of the problem. The fix ended up being a server side issue, not a client side issue. You may try contacting each of the vendors you are having trouble with and see if they can help you out.

Thanks,
Jason

PeerGuardian was the issue for me

I came across this thread and although old the same issues applied with accessing certain sites.
For me peerGuardian was the cause and even though it wasn't running it was still blocking access to sites and also to Steam if you're a gamer. After uninstalling everything is working fine. Strange thing is I reinstalled after discovering it was the issue to add any future site to the 'allow log' but it's not necessary as it works perfectly now...
So hopefully this may be useful to anyone having this issue in the future.

I was having the exact same issue. What i did is went to system preferences>network then select advanced. open the DNS tab and under the box titled "DNS Servers" click the little plus sign and enter 8.8.8.8

hope that helps

heres the site with a little more info http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/

shakefist,

you have blown my mind. i have been having these issues but ONLY on a particular internet service (when i used my neighbor's or work or library wifi all was normal.) this problem has baffled a great deal of people with a wide variety of expertise.

[for now,] the solution you suggested has worked for me!
thank you so much for [at least temporarily] solving my incredibly frustrating problem!! [of this is a permanent solution] you deserve some kind of award or something :D

[i hate the jinx phenomenon, and i try to prevent against it with disclaimers haha]
