This is a much more elegant solution. It does not require Bluetooth and could act as a charger at the same time. Here's to hoping that someone builds and markets this because the iCade mobile looks like a pos in terms of design.
No. Not all games are time wasters. Some are. For instance fast games. Some are not. For instance. Games with a plot and stories.
Now if they make one of these cabinets with a KNOB instead of just buttons, I'll really get my Tempest on!!
Funny, I thought it was the reverse.
Some people seem to be freaking out because they think they're going to have to go out and buy one of these things; That if these become popular then all the games are going to require them in the future. I don't believe that'll be the case at all. Throughout the history of gaming one consistent aspect has been that the developers nearly always support, first and foremost, the controls that come with a system. After all those are the only controls the device's owners are guaranteed to have. Not supporting them thus limits ones potential audience. So please don't worry. At least 99% of the time when these kind of controls are implemented it will simply be as an option. Much like how you don't need an external keyboard to type in iOS. It's just there as an option.

Games with stories are just advanced time wasters. Better at it.

These guys really need to hire a good product designer for their future products (and fire their current one...)

Because these are for people who want physical controls. I'm sorry, but touchscreen controls are not ideal for every game. And besides, not every iPad owner owns an iPhone (or iPod touch) to begin with.
It looks like Ion is taking the iCade to the next level. I'm planning in getting one but I have a question:
Is the iCade future proof? Can its firmware be updated should Apple break something in an iOS update?

The iCade basically emulates a BT keyboard. They can't break support without also breaking support for the latter.
