I've had Hue in my house for almost a year and LOVE IT. The automation aspect and color changing/dimming are so handy for different situations that I never would have thought about.

Our 6 year old will get scared of the dark and come into our room at night requesting to keep a light on. I change one of the bulbs to blue and it is easier on the closed eyes to fall back asleep too and gives our son a little piece if mind.

I see your point, but still...$130+ for lightbulbs. Damn. They better last for a good 4-5 years.

Cool software concepts, but the lighting, meh.........

I really like the software concepts but $200 for an accent lamp with somewhat bland industrial design its quite pricey. Also in my own experiments with LED lighting I find monochromatic lighten to be rather boring. True, you could but 2 or 3 to get more colors but then you'd spend $600.

I like my own creations much better :http://trippylighting.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/img_2203_filtered.jpg

And these also can be remote controlled from my iPhone via WiFi/Bonjour. Admittedly the interface is not quite as polished ;-)

This is pretty cool and I would love to have a few of them. However, there is no way I could justify $200 for one accent light....no matter how cool it is.

No, that isn't ironic.

and the point of my statement was clearly lost on you. miss the quote marks?
