Check out that ugly top level nav. Maybe eventually these things will boot right into CarPlay and skip the custom interface.

What you are looking for is the Alpine iLX

http://alpine-usa.com/product/view/carplay-ilx-007

Really nice unit focused specifically on Carplay so you don't have the convoluted, crappy interface like the others trying to be everything for everybody. Can be had for under $500 too.

This looks neat to me

And how many people have the skills to do that? I can rebuild an engine and set up axle gears, but ask me to build a custom dash piace like that and it's going to look like crap.

Also, that's no where near single DIN.

That only looks custom it's from a kit.

Do my eyes deceive me?

Looking at the faceplates of both these units I don't see a USB port on either. If I'm driving any distance, exactly how am I supposed to keep my iPhone charged?Back to the old cigarette lighter adapters? Seems a clunky solution.

If you read through the specs you'll see they have rear USB ports.

Yes, I've noted that most of these units have one or more USB ports on the rear. But I don't exactly see the usefulness of these while recharging. Unsightly power cord dangling out somewhere (exactly where?), with iPhone awkwardly resting in ashtray while recharging? Seems to me that the proper place for a port ought to be on the front of the unit.

My current head unit has a front panel USB and I don't like it, what's unsightly to me is having the cable draped in front of the dash and somehow always getting wrapped up in the shifter. I'd much rather have a rear USB so I could run the cable behind the dash and come out at the front coin tray where I keep my phone.
