The iPhone is already tall enough, and headphone jacks are longer than they are wide, so it would save space to place the jack next to the device instead of below it.

I believe it was reported that Apple won't allow a MFi license without the chin. In other words, you can't design a device that's any slimmer than Apple's own.

While your picture helps explain your concept, I'd even be good with the jack to the side with a slimmer chin.

Rest assured. USB-C is coming. My approximation is in the next three years or less.

I dunno. The problem with USB-C is, if Apple adopts it they will also be pressured to support USB Power Delivery for fast charging. And if fast charging is being handled by an open protocol on a universal standard port, how will Apple charge accessory makers bull**** "made for iPhone" certification fees?

Yeah, exactly what I mean by "no one".

Oh ok, I guess you were being serious then. I guess everyone will agree with you and no one will buy this product then! Er... and by no one I mean anyone who wants it. Which could be someone. Or everyone (probably not literally). But still all no ones! Glad we've cleared that up. :D

It comes to something when third party vendors start releasing products that put back in the functionality that Apple deliberately removed. I won't be buying an iPhone 7 because the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack is a deal-breaker for me. This case does not make me any more compelled to buy one either.

It may satisfy the minuscule amount of people who foolishly went out and bought the iPhone 7 without knowing Apple had removed the 3.5mm headphone jack, only to discover that they can't plug in every single pair of wired headphones they've ever owned in their entire life, to their new iPhone.

I have an iPhone 7 and I CAN plug in every single pair of wired headphones I have ever owned in my entire life! A convenient adapter came with the phone IN THE BOX.

-not so obiwan.

I get that but the adapter sucks. Didn't take many times at the gym for it to start slipping out of the iPhone or make static sounds every now and then. Now I'm looking for a different device for when I exercise

Don't blame the phone for that, blame the adaptor. There are more robust ones available.

Too funny. The phones keep getting thinner and the cases keep getting bigger. Go figure.

And that's arguably the way it should be. The iPhone 7 serves my needs perfectly just the way it is. I prefer to carry the smallest, thinnest, lightest device that meets my needs as possible. If I need a larger battery of a 3.5mm headphone jack, full waterproofing, or anything else the basic phone needs, I would expect to buy a larger phone, or a case enabling these features, thus enlarging the size of the device I have to carry.

I don't believe for a minute Apple will ever add USB-C to the iPhone. They will keep Lightning until they go wireless charging, and then drop all ports, including the SIM card slot.

Care to provide a list of them that support all of the same features of equal or better sound fidelity as Apple's? Because I only see one for sale on Apple's website.

iPhone 7 Plus since launch day. Not once have I needed to plug anything into the phone except to charge it. I've never used the Lightning Headphones nor have I used the Lightning to 3.5mm Audio Adapter. But I guess someone somewhere wants a more advanced phone, and wants to live in the past at the same time.

Yours does look a lot better but I'm assuming there is significant tech in the bottom to attach to the lightning port and distribute sound to the audio jack and power to the port. Not sure how feasible it would be to modify to move each of the ports to the side and put the necessary electronics on the side.

It's likely feasible based on this Fuze design being sold on indiegogo.

It's Apple that requires the lip at the bottom for whatever reason. Even their own battery case has the chin, and it contains none of the circuitry necessary for adapting the headphone jack.

Also have you seen the teardown of the 3.5mm Lightning adapter? The DAC is tiny. Any hardware they would require would easily be able to fit up the entire extra width added to the side.
