Accessory maker Hyper today announced the release of a new turntable dock for the 24-inch iMac featuring a 360-degree swivel mechanism, making it easy to turn the screen towards a customer or coworker in an office or adjust your view on a video call.

The dock, nominated for a CES 2022 Innovation Award, also features a built-in SSD enclosure (M.2 SATA/NVMe) with a simple push-to-release mechanism and support for up to 2TB of storage, along with nine connectivity options, including one HDMI port, SD and microSD card slots, one USB-C port, four USB-A ports, and power in.

Priced at $199.99, the dock is available in a silver and white finish and will be available to order on Hyper's website starting today.

Hyper also announced what it claims is the world's first Thunderbolt 4 hub with an integrated 100-watt GaN power supply. The hub features one Thunderbolt 4 upstream port for connecting to and charging Thunderbolt-equipped computers like Macs, while three Thunderbolt 4 downstream ports provide up to 40 Gbps of total bandwidth and support for connecting dual 4K displays at 60Hz or a single 8K display at 30Hz.

"Up to now, Thunderbolt 4 hubs included a large external power brick often larger than the hub itself," said Hyper president Daniel Chin. "By integrating the latest GaN technology into HyperDrive, Hyper has eliminated the large power brick and come up with a single hub and charger device for improved portability and a cleaner workspace aesthetic."

With support for USB-C Power Delivery, the hub also provides up to 96W of pass-through charging to the host computer, which is suitable for the 14-inch MacBook Pro.

Pricing and availability for the hub was not disclosed, with customers able to sign up on Hyper's website to be notified when more information is available.

Third-party company announce product to fix Apple iMac stingy port offering. Apple, can you go back to making useful iMacs please. Apple now expects us to get an iMac Pro to get a semi-normal port selection? Greed alive and well in Cupertino.

P.S. Stop making iMacs so thin, make instead a better computer. Thicker with more room for much better built-in speakers, more ports and better airflow. You messed up your keyboards for four years, let's not repeat the same mistake on iMac.

Exactly! I can't believe the M1 iMac doesn't have FireWire 400 anymore. Technology is useless these days.

I mean, the turntable design is not the worst idea, given how slippery the feet on the iMac is. I do feel that price tag is ludicrous, however.

I agree 100%, well said.

Don't buy anything from Hyper. Their products do not have UL certification and are prone to melting themselves to death. See the comments on the Kickstater for their latest charger: https://www.kickstarter.com/project...kable-gan-charger-65w-and-100w-usb-c/comments

Sad. I was really hot on Kickstarter, but have had some less than usable products and now avoid them. It sucks too. The Garmin varia bike radar unit was a Kickstarter, and so was the original Peloton, but so many now seem to over promise and under-deliver. *shrug* So many of them now are like 'What? Who would want one of those?' kind of things.

But it is sad. I'm sure there are many products that are earth shaking, and the inventors really do not abuse the system, but there are enough horror stories now to make it just too much...

Hmmm.... I thought M1 was limited to 2 displays total. Typically one internal display (iMac, or laptop) and one external. So I'd expect just no change to that even with this device. I suppose if you were using it with a Windoze laptop your experience might be different.

Be wary of ordering anything from Hyper. I bought one of their chargers, and it went up in a poof of smoke the first time I tried it. I contacted their customer support 6 weeks ago, and they will not even respond.

Am I the only one that doesn't want the power supply integrated into any devices? These are heat-generating components that shouldn't be in the main system. Also, when power bricks fail, you have to take the whole thing apart to replace it instead of the external brick.

I also don't want Apple to go this way with Mac Mini and iMac, leave the power supply out if possible, it's one less heating element to cool.

If they design it properly, I think the heat can be a relative non-issue, and I like the Mini not having a brick on a rope. *shrug* It has to be *somewhere*. I'd rather have it INSIDE the box, than klunking around, falling off shelves, taking up more space. I get what you are saying, but I prefer the thinner power cable.

It would be the lesser of what the dock supports or what the computer supports. An M1 computer only supports 1 additional external display, but if you used this dock on an M1 Pro or M1 Max machine you could use this for two external displays.

This is sooooo much better than Apple building the ports into their DESKTOP computer! I mean, look how thin and beautiful the iMac is! Eventally, maybe they can build iMacs without CPUs or storage inside...imagine how thin they could be! I mean, you can always add those things in external enclosures if you are an absolute purist and insist on those things!

M1 Pro supports two external displays (along with one built-in), and M1 Max supports three external displays (along with one built-in).

I would usually agree but in this case the 24 iMac is not aimed at all at professionals and most consumers would be fine with the 2 ports on even the base model. They will likely follow the path they did with the new MacBook Pro’s with the next Pro iMac by having a greater variety of ports. If they don’t then I will agree with you!
