Yes, you’d probably have to buffer 10-15 seconds of “live” TV for it to work.

Perhaps you can think of a situation where automatically translated captions wouldn’t be worth the trade off. Nothing springs to mind for me. It wouldn’t need so much buffer when not translating.

Some interesting products from CES on day 1. Some of the new Belkin products are good. Also some nice TVs from Samsung and LG. Looking forward to all other announcements from CES this week.

I would love to buy not just a dumb tv, but one with a full-function remote (i.e. with a number pad). Only LG seems to still include them with their tv's.

I cannot be the only one who still watches regular over-the-air tv (nightly news, sports, certain tv shows, etc) using a digital antenna.

I agree, even for parental control codes, not much point if you have to select the number and try to get the kids to look away!

And using lots of energy to make those processors, and then they go in the bin one day. Not all parts of a TV get recycled. Crazy throwaway scoiety now.

Samsung has a new OLED Smart Monitor M9, a Studio Display competitor

Not really a competitor. Samsung's M9 is 4K, meaning it has about 138 pixels per inch (compared to the Studio Display's 218 PPI), so it seems unlikely that it would properly scale the different display resolutions you can choose in macOS, and so among other things text won't be as sharp as it is on a 5K display like the Studio Display.

I really miss glossy monitors. I don't think we will ever see them again. I'm still holding onto my Apple Thunderbolt Displays.

None of the 3 Panasonic tv's shown on their site come with a remote with number pad like LG's Smart Remote

Actually, Vizio tv remotes have a number pad too, but they haven't update their tvs in years.
