A shame we have to use tacky-tech to look at birds, but anything that keeps us from going outdoors is a must have now. So who is the real invasive species here?

Hummers don't care. Put a standard feeder just outside your kitchen window and watch the show. Setup a DIY camera a little bit away, and film the show. Just do not run out of syrup or the hummers will hover in front of your window and stare you down until it gets refilled. Smallest of birds with biggest of hearts those hummers.

ps: As noted above, keep your feeder clean. My behavioral notes above apply to the Rubys, Rufous, and Anna's we have here.

These type of products are junk. If it’s similar to Bird Buddy where they try to nickel and dime you with subscription fees, it’s not worth it.

I assume the Vista is compatible with the Vision Pro? IMO, the hummingbird feeder needs a camera that has a much higher frame rate than 120 fps.

Ev
I know this may not go over well but for the sake of birds, please stay away from a feeder that you cannot properly clean. We’re losing billions of birds annually to invasive species like outdoor cats, and millions annually to communicable diseases. Feeders need to be sanitized regularly using a diluted bleach solution.
Even more bird genocide from pseudo environmentalism like wind farms

Good opportunity to give a PSA on bleaching your gutters, driveway (in case of puddles), outdoor furniture, roads, tarps, really anywhere water can pool up.

You never know where birds are going to drink from so let’s make sure to regularly sanitize the entire earth in case a bird needs to drink from any surface.

I know your comment was in bad faith, but for anyone unfortunate enough to read your blither, I’ll educate them. What you’re cleaning is the high traffic surfaces you are artificially introducing to attract them to an area. House finch eye disease is a big issue in the south. Must’ve hit a nerve with the cat comment.

It was not. I trap and treat sickly or injured animals, so i know the risks when animals congregate. Cats included. Always spay and neuter as well to help control the pet and stray population.

Do you think rats and squirrels could climb that pole? What would you suggest as a better design?
They can climb the pole, at least some could.

There’s a 5-7-9 rule that applies. The 5-7-9 rule for squirrels is a guideline for placing bird feeders to deter them, suggesting the feeder should be at least 5 feet off the ground, 7 feet away from structures like trees or fences, and 9 feet below any overhanging branches or rooflines, preventing squirrels from reaching it by jumping or dropping.

The feeder looks at least 5 feet off the ground, which is okay. It still needs a big baffle installed on the pole to block them.
