Twelve South today announced a new Valet tray with Qi2-certified wireless charging that combines 15W magnetic charging with a leather-lined catch-all for everyday items.

The Valet features Qi2 wireless charging, delivering up to 15W of power to compatible iPhone models and other Qi2 devices. It also includes a USB-C port capable of supplying up to 15W of power to a second device. It is concealed beneath the base of the tray to reduce visible cables. The Valet is powered via a USB-C port with a braided cable.

The tray is built around a weighted zinc alloy base for stability and is wrapped in Nappa leather. The charging pad itself is raised slightly above the tray surface, creating a defined area for phone placement while leaving the surrounding space available for other personal items.

Valet is available with black or taupe leather as standard, while the outer metal frame is removable and can be swapped independently of the main body, with options for black, taupe, brown, or ecru inserts.

There is an integrated cable management system in the base, enabling the Valet to be oriented in four different configurations. This allows the wireless charging pad to be positioned on the left or right side of the tray, or the entire unit to be rotated into a portrait orientation for narrower surfaces.

A small status light provides visual confirmation that a device has begun charging. The light briefly pulses when charging starts and then fades out after eight seconds.

Valet is available for pre-order in the United States for $179.99, with launch scheduled for January 15, 2026. International availability is planned for later in 2026.

Qi 2.2 or pass. Hard pass. Have specs been released yet? Love their design but always seem 1 iteration behind. Like Apple these days. Argh

Very costly. Definitely not going to buy one. Charging speeds could have been higher. Prices may be even higher for international markets.

I was excited for a moment until I realised it cannot also charge my watch. So far, only Apple's now discontinued multi-charger has the looks.

I figured this would be a $150+ product and so my desire for this is nothing, but I thought it would have more of a Plateau (for the Qi Charging Point) rather than a Pedestal.

Even if I liked spending extra $$ for charging devices and trays this has a bad appearance.

Just saw that Twelve South unveiled their new Qi2 modular charging tray. It looks great on paper… but I have to admit I’m still pretty burned from my last experience with their chargers.

I used to be a happy owner of several Twelve South charging products. Then one day — right after an iPhone update — they just stopped working properly. No warning. No notice on the website. Nothing. My iPhone would sometimes charge, sometimes not, and I honestly thought the problem might be my Apple Watch… so I even bought a second watch trying to troubleshoot it 😅

Eventually I emailed the company and they confirmed that yes — due to a recent iPhone software update, the chargers were no longer compatible. No fix. No workaround. And, as far as I could see, no public communication to customers about it.

To me, that was pretty wild — and honestly pretty disrespectful — especially considering I spent extra money replacing things that weren’t actually broken. In the end I had to replace all the chargers I owned… with another brand, obviously.

So yeah — the new Qi2 tray looks nice. But after that experience, I’m not sure I’m ready to trust them again.
