I'm running into the blue screen issue on my macbook and seems like I might have to reinstall Snow Leopard. However, I don't want to loose my data and I once made a partition for the macbook on an external hard drive where I backed it up some time ago. Is it possible to still back it up?

In Disk Utility, click "Macintosh HD" > New Image and then select the external HDD as place to store that image on.
Or this: http://www.macinstruct.com/node/147

Btw, Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard does not erase any personal data when you do a default install and not a Clean Install of OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard .

Thanks a whole lot!!!!

After I back up the disk to an external HD, can I then do a clean install of SL and then restore the copied disk or should i migrate it?
