I have a S0 42mm SS AW. It's been very reliable, and I like it, except the battery life has been getting
shorter and shorter. It was fine until a week ago where it's done by 3pm. There are no other issues with it. I can take it to Apple Store and get the $80 battery replacement, my question is, what's the likelyhood of them actually replacing the battery or giving me another S0 SS model vs. a newer generation SS model? I'm not picky, I'll take S2, just want to be on the newest OS for starters, but if I get a S0 back, then that might not be the best use of my $80.

So anyone who just went for a battery replacement (no screen popping off or anything) due to capacity and got an upgrade on a S0 SS model?

It really is a ‘mixed bag’, sometimes it depends on what Apple actually has for quantities that they decide to upgrade the customer to. I know in your situation, others have been upgraded to a Series 2, and in other situations, they receive the exact same watch back. I really do think it has to do with what actual quantities they have in terms of what they can issue the customer, if they have low quantities of the Series 2 replacements, then you’re obviously going to receive your first GEN watch back in return.

Actually, from what I've read so far, you never get your own watch back with battery changed, you get a "new" (refurb) watch back. Everyone says they got one with a different serial number than the one they sent.

There’s been multiple members who have received the same watch back with the battery replacement. At least, it was that way in the beginning when they launched the program. Like I stated prior, it’s probably dependent on available quantity/stock.

When the tech at an Apple store damaged my home button on the 6s, Apple replaced the phone with exactly same model, color and memory. They said that was their policy, replacements are the same.

Apple watch is not the same as iphone. I guess I'll have to try or maybe trade in for a S5

Interestingly, my S0 has been doing OK until just the past 3 days when charge lasts shorter and shorter. Coincidence?

When I sent in my S0 last year, they were all set to charge me the battery replacement fee, etc. When I received the watch back, it was the same S0 model, but different serial. The best part is Apple was nice and didn't charge me anything for the battery replacement...just shipping. Lasted me until I got my S4 earlier this year.
