The idea came to me while I was going over the new macbook pro's specs. So I downloaded Catalina's special MBP16,1 build and compared bios headers:

I am not sure if this is at all possible with cMP 4,1/5,1 being dependent on UGA... Picking brains at this stage.

Zero chances. MP5,1 is UGA while MBP16,1 is GOP and even if all was GOP, the personalities are totally different from a card designed for a notebook display as output to a PCIe desktop card. It's easier when both are desktop cards, but even so the UGA versus GOP still stands.

That was my initial thought but then I looked at MVC's RX 580 and VEGA 56 offerings, which are both GOP, and wondered whether @netkas replaced GOP with UGA or added UGA support so both GOP/UGA are on those cards like Nvidia did with the RTX.

Surely the same can be done with the 5700XT / VII now that we have mac bioses for the NV14/V20, no?

I'm curious, that's all.

It's a lot more complex than you are thinking, it's needed a translation shim from UGA to GOP and edit the personalities. I never investigated what was done to implement UGA support with RX 580 but it's what I talked about with an firmware engineer last year, maybe MVC/netkas implemented differently. They probably can do the same for newer cards.

NVIDIA RTX is a special case that don't apply here at all, NVIDIA intentionally created a firmware that works for UGA and GOP at the same time.

Thanks Alex.. I wasn't thinking that it was simple and I know it's complex which is why I am hoping @netkas adds flashing services/support for the 5700XT down the road.
