My friend has an old Titanium Powerbook G4. His headphone plug broke off inside the jack so the audio is still routed to the headphones instead of his internal speakers.

Is there, like, a p-list he can change or something? He's running 10.4.

The plug is a physical connection that redirects sound to the headphones/speakers. To my knowledge, it can't be overridden by software. (if anyone knows otherwise, please respond) However, you can redirect iTunes output to an Airport Express, even with the headphones plugged in. That won't help with sounds generated outside of iTunes, however.

Pooh.

Do you happen to know if maybe this is something they can fix at an Apple store right there without sending it in? (The nearest Apple Store is like two hours away)

It doesn't cost a thing to call and ask. Surely, they've dealt with this problem before, and could tell you whether they typically fix it in the store or send it in.
