Change behaviour of closing Safari?

Hey,

Is it possible to change the behaviour of Safari, when clicking the red close button (top left) - I would prefer it to just quit the application.

Is this possible?

I am using M1 MBP, 11.2.3

it's not how apple apps work, by default. the simplest thing would be to just quit the app: command-Q. simple! or, 'quit' under the file menu. or just close the window, and NOT quit the app.

but maybe someone else has a suggestion....

This is what I thought, its no biggy. - I just wished these actions were more flexible and changeable for such actions.

The main reason I ask is that, Safari keeps flooding (cached) resources in activity monitor, Edge doesn't do this (but I can't be A**ed to transfer all passwords etc. over and I love safari on iPad and iPhone so really like the sync between the three devices and the convenience this brings. - And, as Safari opens so quickly from totally closed I don't see the benefit of having it constantly running in the background - BS doesn't seem to close down these (cached) resources either.

Perhaps Safari just needs a bit of work by Apple!

I am not experiencing any issues, but I just am a clean freak and like to see resources dead when they don't need to be there!

Its not an issue, I just wandered whether there was a way of killing the app (and associated resources) simply by pressing *red*. - I could just shortcut it to close, but wanted it my way, not Apples 😏😂

No, but you can type cmd-q instead and it will close the window and quit the app.

None of this is really necessary. If you don't have any windows open, Safari really isn't doing anything it's not causing any problems, and not really using any resources (whatever that means). The operating system manages system resources very well. Of course, none of this means you can't go ahead and quit if it makes you feel good.
