Change default app

I want Quicktime player to be default on opening my mp3's. If i choose one mp3 and click 'Always open with' and choose Quicktimeplayer. It just changes it for that song. How can i change it for all of them by default ?

Click the "Change All" button right below the drop down menu when you "Get Info" on a file.

Right Click on the mp3, click Get Info and then under the Open With pick QT and choose Change All.

After doing this, but it is not working for all? I did it for .avi and the next .avi file I opened, it opened in QT not VLC?

Using SL 10.6.2

Want them all to open with VLC. Changed the default program to vlc and hit the change all button. But it doesn't work on all of my .avi files.
