Hi,

Some of my contacts have 4 numbers. 1 Mobile, 1 Work and 2 Home

No matter what I seem to do it just wants to order them itself. I put all my numbers in through the address book on my Mac. In there I did it like

Mobile : xxxxxx
Home : xxxxx
Home : xxxxx
Work : xxxxx

When I then sync to iPhone, it puts them in a stupid order

Mobile
Home
Work
Home

I don't want it like this. Is there anyway to re-order them on the phone without deleting them and inputting them into the phone itself in the right order?

other than deleting them then adding them again in order i dont know how to do this on the iPhone. In address book prefs you can set the default order (and fields) for new cards, though i dont know if this effects existing contacts.

I was going to post a new topic about this, but on searching I found this old one. Since a solution wasn't really given, I thought I'd chime in that I'm having the same issue. In Address Book, my contacts info has the format:

Home
Mobile
Work
Other

But when it syncs the iPhone, it puts it in a seemingly random order, usually not the same as it is on the computer. For example, that same contact on the iPhone might look like:

Mobile
Work
Home
Other

This is really annoying and inconsistent; anybody have any ideas on a fix?

It used to drive me nuts on my ipod touch, and I never found a cure, this was syncing via windows/outlook.
I no longer have that problem with my iPhone 3G as I now sync via MobileMe. I did have to initially delete and re-order them directly on my phone at first, but it now sticks to the way I want them.
I know this isn't helpful if you don't have MobileMe, but maybe some will find it beneficial to know. Good luck.

Since I don't use MobileMe, as you said, not a huge help for me.. thanks for the reply though, as you said it might be helpful for someone. Hopefully there's a cure out there somewhere. Between this and the iCal calendar color sync issue, I'm beginning to think Apple focused solely on MobileMe support rather than traditional iTunes syncing :/

Unfortunately, I can confirm that this bug (along with the iCal color-syncing bug) was NOT fixed in the 2.0.1 update. Fingers crossed for 2.0.2 or 2.1 or whatever update is next.

:(

Shouldn't that be configurable as
C
O
D

or

D
O
C

&etc :D

Seriously - if that's how the OP wants it then why shouldn't it be how he gets it?

I lOL'd.

And it's not OCD; if it was going to be called anything, it's more anal retentive, which is mostly just the "O"

I think everyone knows this. The question is how to do it easily and quickly. This is been an issue for a decade now. Why Apple John anything about this because it takes the first number as a primary number when inviting someone to share locations or whatever. There is an app Reorder It. Overhaul rating 4.3, but says we order address fields fields, but folks say it will re-order phone numbers as well and it cost $.99. The good all days when all apps are $.99, yes? Best, Zephar

Holy **** I just got an email notification about this thread... that got bumped from 2008?? That's gotta be some kind of record.

The App looks good. Again, it’s called “Reorder It”. And it’s only eight $.99, like the good all days, no subscription fees which I hate. It has buttons to order email, phone number, URL, address and date. App Store Ragin 4.3, with most recent change it works great, but some people have problems, as usual. Best, Zephar

Yes, I just noticed the date myself. I did a general search using DDG concerning this topic and brought me here, After viewing comments on Apple's forum, where I saw the app Reorder It mentioned. Then to check if anyone else had used this app and their experience, brought me here. Didn’t notice the date until after I already posted because I was using my iPhone and the print is so small, Especially the dates and their contrast in color. Now there’s two of us responding to a 14-year-old post! Ja ja ja!!! However, surprised to see there‘s still a $.99 Apple App Store app that still functions and has been updated with recent reviews. Went ahead and paid the $.99 and it now covers every field in Apple‘s contact list and you can re-order all. It shows up all your contacts and only displays what fields are filled in for each contact and nothing extra making it much easier to deal with. Downloaded to my iPad with the larger screen and it automatically showed up on my iPhone as well. I wonder if it shows up on my iMac? No, macOS not supported. And the contact managers it did show up vary from $.99 to $4.99, but all with terrible ratings from one star to 2.3 stars, with about a half dozen listed. Must be some problem managing Apple‘s contact app. Maybe why Apple hasn’t done anything with it as well.

Color me surprised to find this thread -- and to find out that the app "Reorder It!" is still in the store for $.99.
The best news is that it works as described above by Zephar77. Thanks!!
I don't understand why Apple hasn't fixed this seemingly basic edit function.

Does Reorder It! work with contacts stored in a Google account or just those in iCloud?

I assume it does, but wanted to confirm before buying. I can't believe the stock Contacts app still doesn't support field reordering. 😔
