Change format of screen grab?

I could have sworn that, somewhere, it's possible to select whether screen grab saves as PNG, JPEG etc.

I can't find that option anywhere now. I know you can convert it in Preview, but that's no good. Am I losing my mind??

Fire up terminal and type:

defaults write com.apple.screencapture type jpg

then type Return

and on the next line type:

killall SystemUIServer


jpg stands for the file type you prefer, you can also type png and others of course.

Onyx has an option in Parameters->General for designating the format of the screen capture format.
