Change iCloud E-Mail Address?

Is it possible to change an iCloud E-Mail Address? For instance, if my wife starts off using her gmail e-mail account for iCloud, but later decides to use an @me account, is it possible to merge all of her data from the gmail to the new @me account? Or would it basically all be lost?
