My advice - don't do that. Every OS upgrade breaks it, as to other things (like, say, fixing permissions). You can store stuff on externals, just don't link the folders from your home folder. I have my Photos Library on an external, and my iTunes Media folder, I just told the apps where to find those files.

    Thanks for the response!
OK I see your point but I've had it working fine for ages through several system updates.

I suppose some background. Since I reset to default permissions and had to reinstall the entire Adobe CC suite to get Adobe Illustrator to stop using over 1000% CPU the only issue I have is with Adobe Lightroom. I opened up my main .lrcat file and all the links are broken (some 20k images). The links were ~/Picture/etc but as the alias or symbolic link (can't remember which I did) has been reset they no longer work. Photos app was fine, it started and knew where the Photos Library was as I had probably done and Opt-Click on that to begin with.

Maybe I could try and raise the issue over at Adobe forums too.
