This is unbelievable. Some bloke called Jeeves has kidnapped my lovely Siri. I refuse to speak to him and shall be returning my obviously faulty phone to apple post haste.

I actually want to go the other way around - I'm in the US, but I prefer a male voice. This is mostly because I have a hearing problem where higher-pitched sounds are hard to hear, but I also wonder if women in general prefer male voices and vice versa? Anyway, I hope Apple gets around to giving us more voice options sooner than later!

You can change it!

Go to settings, general, Siri and click where it says language! This changes it I am using a female voice :)

----------

It does keep it uk! Go play and see!

Correction - asking Siri "where" type questions is only for US, and doesn't work in UK no matter what language is selected.

While you can switch to the Female voice using language (to US or Austrailian), Siri, "can't provide maps and directions for UK". Personally, I would prefer the Female Siri, but certainly don't wish to remove functionality in working around this inexplicable restriction.

damnit that sucks.. to find out UK got the male.. I'd rather have a male voice.. Siri is annoying ass hell.. I wanted Siren instead of Siri.. ;)

You can change Siri's voice in Settings

Siri's voice is currently controlled under Settings > International > Voice Control > Siri.

You get the female voice for US English, male for UK. I tried the male UK setting, but he can't understand my American accent very well at all.

I rather preferred an English assistant.

I'm in the UK and would prefer a female voice if only given the option between male and female.

However the one that would really tick my box is to have Space Odyssey's Hal-9000.

I just the aussie voice.

Far better than the UK one.

australian english

Will be exactly the same as if you have a british accent. Stuck on contract android won't reconize my voice

I'd be mad if the U.S. version of Siri was male. I do like the male French one though.

Siri & Apple says it's not male or female...

Presumably if you change the setting to US (and you're in the UK), it won't understand your accent as good as the UK setting would?
