One the marketing fundimental messages from Topaz for years was that once you purchase one of the apps, all upgrades to that app would be free. Today the CEO announced a new plan that does away with free upgrades after 1 year. Not everyone is thrilled by this very big change in their plans.

All existing Topaz customers will have to draw their own conclusions and act accordingly.

That was an idiotic guarantee and would have only been sustainable if smart phone photography led masses of people to buy DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras by the truckload. Instead, the opposite happened. People the world over are throwing out their cameras in favor of their smartphones. Topaz services the ever shrinking market of people who shoot with real cameras.

Really, no developer can truly afford to offer indefinite free upgrades, certainly not in something that's as resource intensive as image processing.
