Just tried out @wicknix's YewTubePPC App above that uses this UA. Strangely enough, I'm seeing vastly higher CPU usage than y'all are mentioning on my DLSD PB with Leopard. Throughout a roughly 30min video, the usage hovered around 60-65%. I do have Perian installed. Any idea what the difference in my setup may be?

Firstly, Yewtube doesn't score as highly for efficiency as Omniweb and Safari, secondly your DLSD has a scaling CPU - so 60% might be 60% of the CPU at it's scaled speed.

Good thought on both fronts but neither seems to be the case. To confirm, I fired up Safari with that UA and started a video. I figured, if the auto-power-management was throttling the CPU, I could certainly boost it back by starting another CPU-intensive app. So, after the video started, I opened MacRumors in TFF. The CPU stayed around the same amount of usage for Safari as Yewtube (60-65%), and TFF was definitely struggling with the lower amount of available cycles. Activity Monitor showed my CPU as pegged at 100% total for the experiment.
So, this leads me to believe that there must still be something different about my setup, but I have no clue what.

Perhaps not - Yewtube on Leopard on my 1.33 Powerbook and iBook is 61% and 70% respectively. I've found that in every case, my 17" DLSD always appears to use more CPU than my 1.33 12" Powerbook because of the scaling feature.

Same over here, 240p is okay, but everything higher and the CPU is at least at 80%

I might have to check it on my 1.33 12" iBook, as soon as it has got a new battery

Sorry for my confusion! I just went back and reread the earlier posts, and realized the super-low numbers I was expecting were reported by Intel users. I guess what I'm seeing is right in the ballpark then. :)

IIRC someone on the first page says he is getting smooth 360p playback with 30% CPU usage on an 800MHz iBook G4...
Also, if you are getting 60% usage on a DLSD, is it possible that you are playing 480p or 720p?

No, I said, it was 30% less than it was before - this is just my personal experience.
Before, for normal and HQ playback (within the context of mobile device video) - the video allows played back within the web page - difference now, is the video plays back in a blank window and CPU requirement drops.

As I've said before, CPU indicated use is problematic on the DLSD because of the frequency scaling processor - you never know (without I believe, an indicator for the CPU voltage) what speed that percentage is of.

FYI this works on my iMac G3 DV SE 400. HQ is unplayable, but Normal plays perfectly fine. Machine is running 10.4.11. Also works great on my PB G4 15 1.5GHz, 10.4.11.
What happens if you click on HQ? does it freeze, or stutter?

On the iMac G3, the HQ window launches, but never plays. On the Powerbook G4, HQ plays perfectly.
