I discovered that Apple made a change to the Purchase Sharing payment options recently. According to the senior agent that I spoke with, this change gives control to the family member and NOT the family organizer as to whether or not to use the organizer's preferred payment method. So, instead of me adding a person to my "family" and allowing them to share my purchases, I cannot restrict their use of my payment method for App Store purchases. They alone can opt to use my credit card or add one of their own.

That is just messed up.

or add one of their own
🧐 AFAIK there's no option for a single family member to use their own card.

The Organizer (you) can allow Shared Purchases, or not. If you do, all charges go to your card for everyone in the family - period. The only alternative is they can add a Gift Card and use those funds on their own accounts.

Or you can NOT allow Shared Purchases, and everyone pays for their own stuff - but it's not shared.

changed in March:

I took my daughter off as she bought stuff and it showed on my CC, haven't checked the above out tbh

All you have to do is go into their family settings and change the crud to ask to buy… and slide the little
Slider to green where it says require purchase approval…
