to be specific I want to change the iWork '09 folder icon, I downloaded a new folder online, I have it in INCS and PNG form and its 512x512, I already searched on google for how to do this and tried copying the file and pasting it on the little icon in the "get info" box

it will copy the file over but it won't be in 512x512 size, in cover flow mode of the finder if i make it anything more than like 48x48 it disappears

any tips, thoughts?

img2icns

I tested this with a dummy icon I had, and all thru cover flow it worked fine.
If copying the icns file and then pasting once having highlighted the little icon (top right) in the Get Info box is not working for you, get img2icns, drag the icns file in, but before dragging, make sure the icon folder checkbox is selected. A folder will appear in the same directory as your icns file, with the correct folder icon. Now rename that folder to iWork 09 (or exactly the same as your old app folder for iwork was called), then drag the contents of your old iWork folder to your new one, then drag it into Applications. Done.
Sorry if it's hard to read and a bit fiddly, but it's the quickest other way I could think of and I'm in a hurry lol. :)
Hope it helps ;)
