I had students import hours of HD quicktime footage and now that we are finished we have black bars above and below our footage. It doesn't seem to matter what settings we change, we can't get rid of these bars. Can anyone give me some advice on how to resolve this.

Also we are wanting to export but all our exports are resulting in pixely .mov files. Solutions?

have you looked at the imported files in quicktime, if you see the black bars in the quicktime viewer , your footage was shot letterboxed, some cameras give this option.

if the files are fine, they this, i posted this the other day about changing aspect ratios in FCP
