After installing Yosemite I noticed a change to the Mail.

I click on an email that's come in and it's been sorted by date, then I want to see other emails from the same person so I change it to 'Sort by From' it jumps to the Z's and then I have to scroll down to find the person alphabetically.

In Maverick it used to keep hold of the email you were on in the same place which was really helpful.

Is there a setting I can change, or am I doing something wrong?

haven't got yosemite on any of my machines now so don't know if theres a setting for this, but once you set the view to 'from' try using

View/Select/Next message in conversation

or View/Select/ Previous message in conversation

either of those should put you within one message of the one you had selected at time you did the 'sort by From' - admittedly that's a bit of a kludge but should be a bit more bearable than loads of scrolling :)

Set it as a custom keyboard shortcut for mail (e.g. something like Shift-Cmd-N) and you wont need to navigate through the menus each time
