Hi there,

I have 3 fodler icons next to the trash icon. They are my downloads Documents and an other folder I use very often. Now these icons I have dragged and dropped in the dock. But the problem is they al 3 look the same.
I get confused which one to take.

How can I change the icons on those folder.

Thanks Cire

If you do not want to pay for icons, name the folders differently?

I suggest LiteIcon over the previous mentioned programs. A free and recently upgraded solution to changing icons. http://www.freemacsoft.net/LiteIcon/

To change anything that isn't listed in the software just do the usual copy and paste method in the "Get Info" window. Just make sure it's set to read & write.

That might help a little. I'd suggest a control-click (or right click) on the icons. Choose Display as Folder or Stack. That will make a difference. As a Stack, it will look more like a file icon rather than a folder icon, and the icon will be the first one listed in your folder. (A stack is just a folder that's in the Dock.)

You can also select from five Sort By options. If you choose one of the three Date options, the icon may change on you more frequently. If you pick Name or Kind, it will stay the same longer, but still may change if you add something that comes first alphabetically.

You can also choose from four View Content As options. Just play with it and see which one you like the best.

And, it's all free!

Are you displaying the folders in the Dock as 'Folders' or 'Stacks'?

If you display them as 'Folders' (by right-clicking on the Stack) it'll show the actual icon of the folder, rather than the contents. Your folders should have unique icons, making them easy to distinguish. If not, you can download free icons from all over the place (just Google 'Mac icons' or go to InterfaceLIFT, as was mentioned).
