Changing Mac Pro Graphics Card

I have an '06 Mac Pro and my Nvidia 7300 just sucks, so I'm looking to buy a new card. I saw this, which uses ATI Radeon 4870. How safe is this, and where can I use any Radeon card for this?

I'm just hesitant cause in that thread,

"If there is a XFX 4890 of model ZWFC, it's ROM is going to be different, and possibly incompatible with a XFX 4890 of model ZWFL.
Also, a deeper problem appears. Because the Model itself can have different revisions.

Even though they are of same card (4890) of same manufacturer (XFX) of same model (ZWFC), and looks physically the same, the revision can be different and that means the ROM is different."

That model you link to on ebay is the exact 4870 I put in my 2007 Mac Pro 1,1. I only had one problem with it and that had to do with dual DVI linking in a fresh install of Snow Leopard 10.6.3. I had to install pre-10.6.3 kernel extensions for it to run both monitors properly but after that it has worked flawlessly.
